Song of the Day: Stereophonics - Maybe Tomorrow

I can't believe I made it to 3 months!

When I got here I thought I'd be lucky to last a month. I thought boredom, loneliness and poverty would set in, and that it would be miserable weather and I'd never get a job in IT. Well, I was wrong about all of it except the IT bit.. but things are picking up over here, and I may just have a chance yet.

As soon as I made the decision to move house everything just started happening for me. I made some new friends, went out to a few *ahem* interesting nights, got out more, drank more, slept less, haven't touched my Sims for weeks, talked more shit and am generally a happy bumblebee. Quite different to at home, where I could go days without talking to someone.

Life is a constant cycle of get up, go to work, run errands in lunch break, go for a drink after work with whoever, get home, do washing or tidy room or other boring stuff, have dinner, in bed by 11 if lucky. It never stops. There are constant invitations from friends (some I know well and some I hardly know at all) for drinks, days out, nights out, and even one friend recently who invited me to Ireland with a group as they had a spare ticket. (Not going, have something else on that weekend). The point is, theres no way you have to be lonely or friendless over here - its just so damn easy to make friends. If a social misfit like myself can, then anyone can. So if you're thinking of coming (you know who you are, Nat :)) then get your butt over here! Who cares if you have to take a crap temp job and survive on nothing? As long as you got money for beers and the other 10,000 activities London has to offer, then it doesn't matter.

I'm happier within myself than I've ever been in my life, I think. The weird thing is, its not really man-related. I've got a crap job, our house is falling apart, I've no love life and its too bloody hot. And yet, I'm practically bubbling with happiness most days. Bizarre. Maybe the heat has fried my brain.

Anyway, roll on winter. Drinking beer in summer is great, but the tube journey every day to work (about 30 mins) sucks ass. Yesterday I was shoved up against some people in such a way that even my most intimate friends have not ever been that close! Bring on the turtleneck jumpers, radiators, hot toddys, mittens and frostbite. It's no wonder people wonder if I'm a few zones short of a travelcard :)

Note to Sam (my housemate, who may one day read this post, my website, etc): My grammar sucks. If you try to correct me, I will kick you in the bollix. Yes I know it will be like a a midget trying for the Olympic high jump medal, but I think your little Colonial friend could do it. Thank you :)
